Processing a traumatic or distressing event is not something that happens easily it takes time and energy. Often, you are eventually able to give it a place yourself. But sometimes you continue to struggle with it. You may experience intrusive images or emotions that keep coming back. In my practice in IJsselstein, I can support you in this process using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
At the moment, EMDR is receiving a lot of attention for trauma processing and reducing anxiety. EMDR is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps you process distressing or traumatic experiences. The goal of the method is to free you from the images and emotions that are still affecting you today. Through bilateral stimulation (eye movements, auditory tones via headphones, or tapping on the body) combined with focused attention on the traumatic memory, EMDR can help you process trauma in a safe and effective way.
EMDR Therapy in IJsselstein
At the beginning, I focus on the cause and background of your symptoms. During the session, I will ask you to think of the image that causes you the most tension. Using a pointer, I guide you through specific eye movements. This stimulates both hemispheres of your brain to work together more effectively. As a result, the old emotional charge is reduced, making space for a new, more positive experience. Although this may sound unfamiliar, it is a proven and effective method that can also help you.
I am here to support you in processing the memories of distressing or traumatic events, helping to reduce or eliminate your symptoms. EMDR is a short-term form of therapy.
